Glass Works 2.0: Casting, Polishing, Coating or the Black Box of Black Holes, 2019<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

\u201cGlass Works 2.0: Casting, Polishing, Coating or the Black Box of Black Holes\u201d is a research-based installation on the mirror of the Virgo interferometer. Arnaud Dubois conducted a multi-site ethnography (France, Germany, U.S.) to understand the collaboration between glass-makers and physicians in the work of gravitational waves\u2019 observation and detection. His installation uses photography, documents, and wall writings, to explore how Virgo\u2019s mirrors \u2013 the purest quartz ever used in the history of optics sciences, the most reflective mirror ever constructed, and the flattest surface in the world \u2013 are made. The installation explores the fundamental relation between the rhythm of the body of the technicians embedded in the mirror and the rhythm of space detected with this apparatus. Constructed around the three main actions and places of the Virgo\u2019s mirrors production: casting in Germany, polishing in U.S, and coating in France, the installation exhibits the tools, matters, gestures and people behind gravity. In opening the black box of black holes, his work wants to restore the relation between techniques and science in exhibiting the craft of general relativity.<\/p>\n

“Glass Works 2.0: Casting, Polishing, Coating o the Black Box of Black Holes” \u00e8 un’installazione basata sulla ricerca sullo specchio dell’interferometro Virgo. Arnaud Dubois ha condotto un’etnografia multi-sito (Francia, Germania, Stati Uniti) per comprendere la collaborazione tra produttori di vetro e medici nel lavoro di osservazione e rilevazione delle onde gravitazionali. La sua installazione utilizza la fotografia, i documenti e gli scritti murali, per esplorare come sono realizzati gli specchi di Virgo, il quarzo pi\u00f9 puro mai usato nella storia delle scienze ottiche, lo specchio pi\u00f9 riflettente mai costruito e la superficie pi\u00f9 piatta del mondo. L’installazione esplora la relazione fondamentale tra il ritmo del corpo dei tecnici incorporato nello specchio e il ritmo dello spazio rilevato con questo apparato. Costruito attorno alle tre principali azioni e luoghi della produzione di specchi di Virgo: fusione in Germania, lucidatura negli Stati Uniti e rivestimento in Francia, l’installazione mostra gli strumenti, le materie, i gesti e le persone dietro la gravit\u00e0. Nell’aprire la scatola nera dei buchi neri, il suo lavoro vuole ripristinare la relazione tra tecniche e scienza nell’esporre l’arte della relativit\u00e0 generale.<\/p>\n
