Aitor Ortiz

Beyond the documentary photography of architecture and industry, and asserting the dilution factor and transmutation of reality that is associated with the photographic representation, Aitor Ortiz works with space, architecture and object as starting elements to a number of visual and cognitive unknowns. His interest is persistent for raising a series of dilemmas between representation and interpretation (perception) and establishes a relationship between the content of his images, the physical properties of the materials on which reproduce their works and their position in space exhibition. He has published more than a dozen books and participated in interesting projects such as photographic documentation of the construction process of the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao. Recently he has been a beneficiary of a LEONARDO grant granted by the BBVA Foundation for the realization of the LINK project. He is currently completing a monographic project on the built work of the architect Antoni Gaudí. His work has been exhibited individually in the Museum of the University of Navarra Pamplona, Le Centquatre-Paris, MACUF (A. Coruña) FOTOGRAFISKA (Stockholm), Patio Herreriano Museum (Valladolid) or the ARTIUM Museum (Vitoria) and in collective exhibitions in more than thirty countries. His work is present in the MNCARS collection, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Iberdrola Collection, the Guggenheim Bilbao Museum, the Patio Herreriano Museum and the “La Caixa” Foundation Contemporary Art Collection, among others.

Oltre alla fotografia documentaria che riprende strutture architettoniche e industriali e afferma l’inconsistenza e la trasmutazione della realtà collegata alla rappresentazione fotografica, Aitor Ortiz utilizza lo spazio, l’architettura e gli oggetti come punti di partenza verso mondi visivi e cognitivi ignoti. Il suo interesse è costantemente rivolto al dilemma tra rappresentazione e interpretazione (o percezione) e stabilisce una relazione tra il contenuto delle immagini, le proprietà fisiche dei materiali sui quali vengono riprodotte le sue opere e la loro posizione all’interno dello spazio espositivo. Aitor Ortiz ha pubblicato oltre una dozzina di libri e ha partecipato a numerosi progetti interessanti, tra cui la documentazione fotografica del processo di costruzione del Guggenheim Museum Bilbao. Di recente ha ottenuto una borsa LEONARDO finanziata dalla Fondazione BBVA per la realizzazione del progetto LINK. Attualmente è impegnato nel completamento di un progetto monografico sull’opera scultorea dell’architetto Antoni Gaudí. I suoi lavori sono stati oggetto di mostre personali all’interno del Museo Università della Navarra di Pamplona, del Centquatre di Parigi, del MACUF di A Coruña, del FOTOGRAFISKA di Stoccolma, del museo Patio Herreriano di Valladolid o del museo ARTIUM di Vitoria e sono stati esposti anche all’interno di mostre collettive in più di trenta paesi. Le sue opere sono conservate, tra le altre, all’interno della collezione MNCARS, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, nella Iberdrola Collection, nel Guggenheim Museum Bilbabo, nel museo Patio Herreriano e nella Collezione di Arte Contemporanea della Fondazione “La Caixa”.
