Jol Thomson

is an artist, sound designer, and researcher working in the interstices between (particle) physics, critical theory, and the environmental humanities. Thomson received his meisterschüler in Fine Art from the Städelschule, Frankfurt aM. With his experimental music, moving image work, and writing he has been awarded international prizes and commissions. Between 2014-2016, with artist Tomás Saraceno, he developed and delivered an experimental, transdisciplinary arts pedagogy to more than 400 architecture students at the Technical University of Braunschweig. He won the MERU Art*Science Award. Recent exhibitions include: Logics of Sense at the Blackwood Gallery, Toronto, Canada; BLACKHOLe at GAMeC, Bergamo; Blind Faith: Between the Cognitive and the Visceral in Contemporary Art at the Haus Der Kunst, Munich; Open Codes: Living in Digital Worlds, ZKM (Center for Art and Technology), Karlsruhe.

E’ un artista, sound designer e ricercatore che opera tra fisica (delle particelle), teoria critica e umani-stica ambientale. Thomson ha ricevuto il meisterschüler in Belle Arti dalla Städelschule di Francoforte. Grazie alla musica sperimentale, al lavoro di immagini in movimento e alla scrittura, ha ricevuto premi e incarichi internazionali. Tra il 2014 e il 2016, insieme all’artista Tomás Saraceno, ha elaborato un modello di pedagogia artistica sperimentale e interdisciplinare trasmettendolo a oltre 400 studenti di architettura presso il Politecnico di Braunschweig. Nel 2016 ha vinto il MERU Art*Science Award. Ha partecipato a una serie di residenze artistiche internazionali.
