Tomás Saraceno

was born in Argentina. Tomás Saraceno’s practice is elevated by the concepts linking art, architec-ture, natural sciences, astrophysics and engineering. Enmeshed at the junction of these worlds, his floating sculptures, community projects and interactive installations propose and explore new, sustainable ways of inhabiting and sensing the environment. Aerocene, an open-source collective project for artistic and scientific exploration, born of Saraceno’s imagination, comes alive through solar energy and infrared rays from the earth’s surface. Saraceno’s work is included in the collections of Bauhaus Museum, Weimar; MoMA, New York; SFMOMA, San Francisco; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; Nationalgalerie, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, and has most recently exhibited at the 58th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia as part of “May You Live In Interesting Times” and the Palais de Tokyo in Paris for his Carte Blanche exhibition “ON AIR”. Select residencies include the Centre National d’Études Spatiales, MIT Center for Art, Science & Technology (ongoing), the Max Planck Institute, the Nanyang Technological University di Singapore and Atelier Calder. He has received the Calder Prize. Saraceno lives and works in and beyond the planet Earth.

Intrappolati all’incrocio di questi mondi, le sue sculture galleggianti, i progetti della comunità e le installazioni interattive propongono ed esplorano modi nuovi e sostenibili di abitare e percepire l’ambiente. Aerocene, un progetto collettivo open-source per l’esplorazione artistica e scientifica, scaturito dall’immaginario di Saraceno, si anima attraverso la sola energia solare e dei raggi infrarossi provenienti dalla superficie terrestre. L’opera di Saraceno è inclusa nelle collezioni del Museo Bauhaus di Weimar; MoMA, New York; SFMOMA, San Francisco; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; Nationalgalerie, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, Berlin, e recentemente ha esposto alla 58a Esposizione Internazionale d’Arte – La Biennale di Venezia nell’ambito di “May You Live In Interesting Times” e il Palais de Tokyo di Parigi per la sua mostra Carte Blanche “ON AIR”.
